Ralph N. Kleps Award for 2007

TheSuperior Court of California, County of Glenn is pleased to announce that the Court has been named as a recipient of the prestigious judicial branch Ralph N Kleps Award, for Improvement in the Administration of the Courts.

Created in 1991 in honor of Ralph N. Kleps, the first administrative director of the California courts, the Kleps Awards recognize and celebrate the contributions made by individual courts to the administration of justice. Each year the members of the Judicial Council of California approve the court programs for this award, which are recommended to them by the Kleps Award Committee.

The project that is the object of the Kleps Award is the Court’s Information Systems (IS) program.  The program is a collaborative venture of the Glenn and Butte Superior Courts. The program was developed in response for the Glenn Court’s need for comprehensive IS services. In considering its options, the Court realized that the huge expense of creating a full Information Systems Department for a two Judge Court system was not cost effective.

As a result, the Glenn and Butte Courts came together and developed the idea of sharing the Butte Superior Court’s existing IS department resources which had the full gamut of services from help desk assistance to the Director of Information Services, at a fraction of the cost of developing a stand alone IS Department for Glenn. The Courts are now connected by a T-1 line and most assistance to the Glenn Court is easily accomplished on line from Chico to the courthouses in Willows and Orland but if in person hands on assistance are required IS staff is just minutes away. The joint effort has been a huge success.

This project is the first cross county collaborative effort between two courts in California, of its kind.
